The BIG CAPTO modular tooling system offers better efficiency, material selection, and heat treatment. The trademark CAPTO is licensed from Sandvik Coromant. This shank is designed to secure the probe into a Capto C6 machine tool spindle. Mill-turn machines like the Mazaak Integrexes and Mori NT's are commonly seen with this connection, but it is becoming more available as a standard mill spindle option- it's similar to an HSK, but only a step up the ladder. For turning and milling, it can't be beat as a quick-change option. You will be better served getting some endmill holders and short ER32 collet chucks. Mill or turn, it's ridgid, very adaptable, and very accurate, with both face & taper contact and the 3 lobes which lock themselves from rotating.

A cat40 to C5 or C6 Capto adaptor would be longer than a short ER series collet chuck. Sandvik developed Capto, but Seco also recently liscensed it for their own system. Shank gauge length is 42.00 mm (1.654 inches), and it is suitable for OSP60, OMP60, RMP60 and RMP600 (when not used in shank switch configuration). That said, for a HAAS Toolroom mill, tell the tooling guy to quit blowing smoke up your hole. I doubt it is offered as a spindle choice other than the CT40, and buying CT40 to Capto adapters is just extra money.
It is a higher end system no doubt, but for your machine, it will be way way overkill.
